Kawartha Lakes declares Significant Weather Event due to forecasted freezing rain

Kawartha Lakes – As of December 28, 2025, the City of Kawartha Lakes has declared the forecasted freezing rain a Significant Weather Event, in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02 (Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways).

City staff have been working to prepare across the municipality and snow plows will be fully mobilized for salting and sanding today, overnight and tomorrow morning. Residents are reminded that there may be delays to this work based on available resources and access issues caused by the weather.

Roads are expected to become ice-covered this afternoon and freezing rain is anticipated to continue into Monday morning. City crews will continue to monitor the situation and will officially declare the end of the event once service levels return to normal.

We strongly urge residents to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary and to stay off the roads wherever possible for your safety and the safety of our crews. Below is a list of important contact information to have readily available should you need it:
