‘Museums are my Vibe’ is back to help celebrate May is Museum Month

Kawartha Lakes – May is Museum Month, a special time to celebrate the vital role museums play in preserving and sharing our history, culture, art, and science. Throughout May, let’s reflect on the important contributions these institutions make to our understanding of the world around us.

This month also features International Museum Day on May 18, a global event organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The day highlights the important role museums play in fostering cultural dialogue, advancing education, and safeguarding heritage.

Local museums are essential in preserving and sharing the stories, traditions, and experiences that shape our communities. They help foster a sense of connection, to our past, to one another, and to the places we call home.

To celebrate, Kawartha Lakes is celebrating the second Anniversary of the ‘Museums Are My Vibe’ campaign. Visitors can stop by any Kawartha Lakes museum to collect special-edition stickers and postcards.

“Kawartha Lakes is proud to be home to nine exceptional community museums,” said Laura Love, Economic Development Officer – Curatorial Services. “During Museum Month, we celebrate the meaningful impact they have across our communities.”

Laura Love and Donna Goodwin, Economic Development Officer – Arts and Culture, make up the Kawartha Lakes Culture team. They encourage residents and visitors alike to explore the region by using the Toureka! app to discover the Arts and Heritage Trail, “where all of our museums are featured along with other historic and cultural destinations.” The museums are open throughout the month, check opening hours on the Toureka! app.

This May, take time to recognize the important work museums do to protect our shared heritage for future generations. Whether you visit in person or explore online, there are many ways to engage with and support their mission of education, discovery, and connection.

Together, we can celebrate the museums that enrich our communities and inspire curiosity and lifelong learning, both locally and around the world.
