Osprey Heritage Award nominations are now open
Kawartha Lakes – Nominations for the City of Kawartha Lakes Osprey Heritage Awards are now open. Nominations will be accepted until September 15, 2025.
The Kawartha Lakes Municipal Heritage Committee is looking for nominations for the 2025 Osprey Heritage Awards. Every other year, the Committee recognizes and celebrate outstanding projects and contributions that have promoted and preserved community heritage within Kawartha Lakes.
"One of the most important things that our Municipal Heritage Committee can do is to recognize the efforts of people in our community to promote the preservation and adaptive reuse of the heritage assets of our city,” said Athol Hart, Chair of the Committee.
The awards will be presented in three distinct categories:
- Publication and Research Award: Non-fiction work about Kawartha Lakes archeological, built, cultural and/or natural heritage. Examples include exhibits, books, articles, and more.
- Community Heritage Award: A volunteer-based organization or individual that promotes and/or protects heritage in Kawartha Lakes.
- Heritage Restoration/Adaptive Reuse Award: Property owners—both residential and business—who have demonstrated a commitment to heritage preservation in one of these areas:
- preservation work that protects, maintains and stabilizes the original form, material and integrity of a historic place;
- rehabilitation work involving sensitive adaptation of an historic place or individual component for a continuing or compatible contemporary use;
- restoration work that reveals, recovers or represents the state of an historic place or individual component as it appeared at a particular period in its history;
- property and buildings well maintained.

The Committee also recognizes heritage organizations that have been in operation for 25, 50, 75 or 100 years through the Heritage Milestone Award.
Nomination submissions must be received by September 15, 2025.
