Reminder: overnight on-street parking is prohibited in Kawartha Lakes from November 1 to April 30
Kawartha Lakes – With winter right around the corner, the municipality would like to remind residents that seasonal overnight on-street parking restrictions are in effect from November 1, 2024 until April 30, 2025.
“During the winter season, it is important to keep all municipal roads clear of vehicles to allow for effective winter maintenance operations. When vehicles are left parked on the road overnight, it prevents our snowplow operators from safely and properly clearing the roads,” said Bryan Robinson, Director of Public Works, Kawartha Lakes.
Vehicles parked on the street overnight can cause unnecessary safety hazards for our snowplow operators as well as other motorists travelling the roads.
Overnight parking restrictions
On-street parking in Kawartha Lakes is prohibited between 11pm and 6am from November 1 to April 30.
Potential penalties for overnight parking
Vehicles that are parked overnight may be issued a parking ticket, which include fines up to $60.
Per By-Law 2023-179 as amended, vehicles may be ticketed and/or towed for overnight parking during the restricted period regardless of snow clearing operations and weather conditions. Vehicles that are towed will be at the expense of the owner.

Snow and ice removal
Snow and ice on sidewalks can impact how people get around safely, including pedestrians with service animals, walkers, wheelchairs and strollers. Residents and businesses are responsible and required to clear the way around their property.
- Do not push or blow snow from your property back on to the street. This is in violation of the Highway Traffic Act and creates unsafe conditions.
- Where possible, pile snow on the right side of your driveway (as you face the street), so that cleared snow does not get moved back onto your driveway by the snow plow.
- Reduce the height of the snow bank at the end of your property by shoveling snow back further onto your property. This improves visibility when entering or exiting your driveway.
- For safety reasons, remove snow around exit doors, stairways, fire escapes and furnace vents.
- If there is a fire hydrant in front of your home or business, remove snow and ice around the fire hydrant. In the case of an emergency, the faster fire services can access the hydrant, the faster they can respond to an emergency.
