Routine nightly sanitary sewer flushing set to begin September 8, 2025
Kawartha Lakes – Nightly sanitary sewer flushing is set to begin in Lindsay this week from 7pm to 3am each night September 8 to September 12.
The contractor will be working on Colborne St., working West to East to Melbourne St. between Victoria St. N and St. Paul St. and Victoria St. and St. Lawrence Ave.
This preventative maintenance is necessary to remove settled and accumulated material from our sewer lines. The flushing will also help to eliminate the potential for sanitary sewer main surcharging which can result in damage to property.
During this process, the contractor will be setting up apparatus at manholes in the roadway and releasing pressurized water through the sanitary sewer main pipe to remove any debris buildup. As a result, a bubbling and/or vacuum effect may be noticed in your drains and toilets. It is recommended that residents close all toilet seats and cover any floor drains.
After your area has been completed, the municipality recommends refilling all plumbing traps in your home by running the water in your sinks and floor drains to prevent sewer gases from migrating into the home.
Please note that routine sanitary sewer flushing only happens in Bobcaygeon, Coboconk, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay and Omemee as they are the only City of Kawartha Lakes areas with wastewater collection systems.
