Residents recognized for helping shape and support the community

Kawartha Lakes celebrates committee and volunteer contributions

Kawartha Lakes – The City recently hosted a special volunteer appreciation event to thank the many residents who served on Committees of Council and Volunteer Management Committees during the current Council term.

The event took place on May 7, 2026 at the Victoria Park Armoury and brought volunteers together for an evening of networking, activities, refreshments and recognition. The celebration also highlighted the City’s 25th anniversary.

The theme of the event was “Together We Bloom”, reflecting the growth, care and connection that define the volunteer community in Kawartha Lakes. Pineneedle Farms generously provided living plant materials that were used throughout the event displays.

Kawartha Lakes is home to hundreds of volunteers who support local programs, events, committees, recreation spaces and community organizations each year. Their involvement helps make the municipality a welcoming and connected place to live. The City also hopes events like this encourage younger residents to get involved in volunteering and community leadership opportunities in the future.

Mayor Doug Elmslie thanked volunteers for the important role they play in the community.

“Council, and by extension the City as a whole, relies on the work you do to help us move forward, improve our communities and create opportunities for residents to come together,” said Mayor Elmslie. “You showed up to meetings, shared ideas, gave advice and made a difference. Our volunteers are the heart of these committees, and we are very grateful for everything you do.”

Chief Administrative Officer Ron Taylor also recognized the impact volunteers have across the municipality.

“Your generosity, time and commitment make a meaningful difference every day,” said Taylor. “Your contributions help build and support the strong, connected community we are fortunate to have. Thank you for all that you do—you are truly appreciated.”

The City thanks all volunteers, past and present, for helping make Kawartha Lakes a welcoming and vibrant community.
