Mattress recycling program returns to Lindsay Ops landfill

Kawartha Lakes – On September 11, 2024 our mattress recycling program was put on hiatus due to an unexpected shut down at the plant where we’ve contracted out mattress recycling.

We’re excited to share that the hiatus is over and our mattress recycling program is back up and running.

Curbside Tags will again be available for purchase online, as well as at our Municipal Service Centres, select library branches and local retailers. For a full list of locations where you can purchase tags visit our Items for Sale page.

Have a mattress or box spring that needs recycling?

Mattresses are recycled at the Lindsay Ops landfill only. They are not accepted for recycling at our four other landfills (Eldon, Fenelon, Laxton, and Somerville).

If you didn’t want to bring your old mattress to the Lindsay Ops landfill yourself, you can always purchase a $16 mattress tag online using our Curbside Tag form. Tags are also available for purchase at our Municipal Service Centres.

Once the mattress tag is purchased, all you have to do is contact the team at Miller Waste Services (1-888-557-4711 or kawarthalakes@millerwaste.ca) and they’ll arrange for pick-up on your regularly scheduled collection day.

For more information on mattress recycling and other waste diversion programs in the municipality check out our Diversion Programs page.

About recycling mattresses in Kawartha Lakes

We started recycling mattresses at the Lindsay Ops landfill in September 2018.

In 2021, we banned mattresses from being disposed of anywhere but the Lindsay Ops landfill and in 2022 we added a second trailer in Lindsay to keep up with the demand. With your help, as of April 2024, we have diverted over 31,167 mattresses from going into our landfills!
