New online portal makes pet licensing easier in Kawartha Lakes

Kawartha Lakes – Kawartha Lakes has launched an improved online registration portal that makes it faster and easier for residents to manage their municipal service applications.

The new portal, Cityworks, provides a simpler, more convenient way for residents to submit applications and keep their details up-to-date. Through the portal, users can:

  • Create a secure online account

  • Update their information

  • Upload supporting documents

  • Check their application status

  • Make their payments using debit or credit cards

Note: Cash payments are no longer accepted.

These changes help make the licensing process faster and more secure. In addition to pet licensing, you can also apply for burn permits and fireworks permits through the portal, with more applications being added throughout the year.

Why pet licensing matters

All dogs and all cats living in urban areas of Kawartha Lakes must be registered and licensed with the municipality.

Licensing helps ensure pets can be quickly identified and returned home if they become lost. It also allows the municipality to notify owners promptly if their pet is being safely held at a municipal shelter.

Animal licenses must be renewed annually, and lifetime tags must be updated whenever owner contact information changes. Purchasing a license ensures your pet is in compliance with Animal Control By-law 2021-072, which was established to help protect the health and safety of residents and their pets.

2026 fees for dogs and cats

New for 2026, Kawartha Lakes has harmonized animal tag fees across the municipality to ensure consistency and fairness for all residents.

  • Annual tag for spayed/neutered*: $45.00

  • Annual tag for unaltered: $50.00

  • Lifetime tag: $100.00

  • Replacement tag: $30.00
