Avoid freshly treated areas for a short time
Dust control program underway on gravel roads
Kawartha Lakes – Annual dust control operations are underway across Kawartha Lakes.
Dust control helps reduce the amount of dust created by traffic on gravel roads. Road crews apply calcium chloride (CaCl₂), which helps hold the road surface together and keeps dust from blowing into the air.
Dust control work takes place in May, June and September and is dependent on weather conditions. Applications have begun and will continue as conditions allow.
What this means for you
When dust control is being applied, please use caution around work areas. Direct contact with the product may cause skin irritation. Residents, children and pets should avoid walking on treated roads for at least six hours after application, or until the product has had time to dry.
Motorists may encounter slow-moving dust control trucks while work is underway. These vehicles travel at about 15 km/h while spraying. Please be patient and follow directions from the driver. The truck will pull over when it is safe to allow vehicles to pass.
Thank you for your patience as crews complete this important seasonal road work.
