Get ready to wear green for Show Your 4-H Colours Day
Kawartha Lakes – Kawartha Lakes is getting ready to wear green on Wednesday November 4, 2026, in celebration of Show Your 4-H Colours Day.
4-H is a non-profit youth development organization that uses a "learn by doing" approach to help children and teenagers build life skills, confidence, and leadership. This nationwide event, held annually on the first Wednesday of November, recognizes the achievements and contributions of 4-H youth, volunteers, and alumni across Canada.
Show Your 4-H Colours Day encourages Canadians to wear green, share their 4-H pride and celebrate the positive impact of 4-H in their communities.
“One of the great things about 4-H is that it gives young people the chance to try something new, discover their interests, and build confidence along the way,” said Mayor Doug Elmslie. “We're pleased to join communities across Canada in celebrating the program and the volunteers that make it happen, who have inspired generations of young people through hands-on learning and community involvement.”
Locally, the Kawartha Lakes Haliburton 4-H Association offers young people opportunities to learn and grow through activities ranging from agriculture to science, technology, cooking, crafts and community service. Thanks to dedicated volunteers and leaders, youth can explore their interests in a welcoming and supportive environment. A farming background is not required to participate.
Join the celebration on November 4 by wearing green and sharing your 4-H pride at school, at work or on social media.
For more than a century, 4-H has helped young Canadians develop leadership skills, confidence and a sense of responsibility through hands-on learning, mentorship and community involvement. Guided by the motto ‘Learn To Do By Doing,’ 4-H encourages youth to explore their interests, develop new skills and make a positive difference in their communities.
