Kawartha Lakes remembers fallen officers on Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day

This year’s day of remembrance comes at a particularly difficult time for policing communities across Ontario and Canada. Recent deaths in police services have reminded us that the loss of one member reaches far beyond a single service. It is felt by families, colleagues, first responders, and communities across the country.  

“This Sunday, we honour the police and peace officers who gave their lives in service to others,” said Chief Kirk Robertson of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service. “Their sacrifice reminds us of the commitment and courage behind those who serve in this profession, and their memory will remain forever in our hearts.”  

“We extend our condolences to the families, friends and colleagues who have experienced loss this year and in years past,” said Mayor Doug Elmslie. “As a community, we are grateful to the police and peace officers who dedicate their careers to helping and protecting others. Lowering our flags is a small but meaningful way to show that their service and sacrifice are remembered.” 

On September 27, we invite you to take a moment to remember those who have lost their lives in service, and to recognize the families, colleagues, and communities who continue to carry their memory forward.
