Kawartha Lakes says #ThanksCoach during National Coaches Week
Kawartha Lakes – During National Coaches Week, Kawartha Lakes recognizes the local coaches who help make sport, recreation and active living possible in our community.
Organized in part by the Coaches Association of Ontario, National Coaches Week is celebrated across Canada each September to recognize the positive impact coaches have on athletes, families and communities. This year, National Coaches Week is September 14 to 20.
From teaching new skills and building confidence to creating welcoming places for people to participate, coaches make a difference both on and off the field. Many also give countless hours of their own time to support athletes and local sports organizations.
“Coaches have an incredible impact on people of all ages in Kawartha Lakes,” said Mayor Doug Elmslie. “They teach much more than the skills of a sport. They encourage teamwork, confidence, perseverance, respect for rules and for opponents, and a sense of belonging. National Coaches Week is a great opportunity to recognize the people who give their time and energy to help others succeed. To all of our coaches across Kawartha Lakes, thank you.”
Across Canada, one in seven people will coach at some point in their lifetime, and more than two million people have received training through the National Coaching Certification Program.
Say #ThanksCoach
Residents, athletes, parents and local sport organizations are encouraged to recognize a coach who has made a difference in their lives.
You can take part by:
- Posting a photo, story or message about a coach you appreciate
- Having athletes create a card, message or short video for their coach
- Sharing a coach’s story on your team or organization’s social media channels
- Using #ThanksCoach and #CoachesWeek on social media to join the national celebration
Even a simple thank you can help recognize the time, commitment and encouragement coaches provide throughout the year.
The Coaches Association of Ontario supports coaches from the community level through to high-performance sport by providing development opportunities, resources, funding, recognition and representation. The organization was founded in 2002 and supports coaches across all sports in Ontario.
