Last chance to share your thoughts on the Cultural Master Plan update
Kawartha Lakes – Kawartha Lakes is inviting residents to help shape the future of arts, culture, and heritage by completing the Cultural Master Plan survey before May 10. The updated plan will guide cultural growth and investment in the community from 2026 to 2036.
Residents from all backgrounds are encouraged to share their ideas, whether they are artists, business owners, volunteers, or community members.
“Our cultural plan supports a thriving cultural sector,” said Rebecca Mustard, Manager of Economic Development at Kawartha Lakes. “It provides a clear roadmap for how Council will invest in culture as our community grows. We encourage everyone to complete the survey and help shape the future of culture in our community.”
The Cultural Master Plan helps the City decide how to support local arts, heritage, festivals, cultural spaces, and community programs over the next 10 years. It also helps protect the unique identity of Kawartha Lakes and supports a vibrant community.
The current plan was approved in 2020. Since then, the community has experienced many changes, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, economic uncertainty, fewer volunteers, and reduced funding from other levels of government.
Despite these challenges, Kawartha Lakes has continued to invest in culture through expanded programs, increased support for community groups, additional cultural staff, and research into a possible future cultural centre.
Now, the City is updating the plan to reflect current community needs and priorities. Staff and consultants from TCI Management Consulting and The Planning Partnership will review the existing plan and build on its goals and recommendations. The updated plan will also align with the City’s Strategic Plan and Economic Development Strategy.
