Plant upgrades scheduled for May 5 and 6

Temporary water restrictions on the Canadiana Shores Drinking Water System

Kawartha Lakes – The Canadiana Shores Drinking Water System (DWS) will undergo plant upgrades on May 5 and 6, 2026.

There are no expected interruptions to water service, and the water will remain safe to drink during this work. However, residents on this DWS are being asked to temporarily reduce water use by following Phase One Water Restrictions (below) while the upgrades are completed.

These temporary restrictions are being put in place to help ensure there is enough water available for essential uses while the system is operating at reduced capacity during maintenance.

Phase One Water Restrictions

Residents are asked to follow these outdoor watering rules:

  • Homes with an odd-numbered address may water lawns and gardens on odd-numbered calendar days

  • Homes with an even-numbered address may water lawns and gardens on even-numbered calendar days

  • Outdoor watering is only permitted:

    • between 6am and 9am; and

    • between 7pm and 10pm

These restrictions are enforceable under the City’s Water and Wastewater Services By-Law.

What to expect

Water will continue to be safe to drink throughout the maintenance period.

Some residents may notice cloudy or discoloured water. This is normal and not harmful. If this happens, run your cold water tap until it clears. If discoloured water continues, contact the City of Kawartha Lakes at 705-324-9411 during regular business hours, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

You may also notice a change in water pressure. This will return to normal once the work is complete.
