Kawartha Lakes – The freezing rain storm has passed, but its effects are still being felt across the municipality, especially with ongoing power outages.
Kawartha Lakes - The Medical Officer of Health has directed the City of Kawartha Lakes to issue a Drinking Water Advisory on March 31, 2025 due to a loss of pressure in the distribution system due to a short generator failure at the Water Treatment facility. Notices have been hand delivered to residents.
This tap water can make you ill. The elderly, the very young and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.
The freezing rain storm continues to have widespread impacts across the municipality. With strong winds expected tonight, there is a risk of additional damage.
We strongly encourage residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and to check in on vulnerable neighbours—only if it’s safe to do so.
Kawartha Lakes – The effects of the freezing rain storm are widespread throughout the municipality. Winds expected this evening may increase damage. This update provides residents with information on where to go for assistance. A further update will be provided at approximately 5pm today.
Kawartha Lakes – As of March 29, 2025, the City of Kawartha Lakes has declared the ongoing winter freezing rain event a Significant Weather Event, in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02 (Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways).

Kawartha Lakes – In an effort to mitigate fire hazards, Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service has issued their annual April burn ban for the municipality. The burn ban will be in effect as of 12am on Tuesday April 1, 2025.
UPDATE: The blockage was removed by the MNR/Parks Canada last night (March 20), water is flowing normally and the flood risk at the Kinmount Dam has been mitigated.
