Community Safety and Well-Being Plan

The Kawartha Lakes Community Safety and Well-Being Plan outlines a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach to addressing the social issues that impact community health and safety.

Project Safe Trade

Project Safe Trade provides a public space that can be used by persons who wish to facilitate the exchange of goods purchased online.

Project Safe Trade provides two (2) designated parking spots at the Kawartha Lakes OPP detachment, located at #3028 Highway 35 in Lindsay, for use by residents and visitors to the municipality. The parking spots are identified by signs and provide a public space for individuals who sell or purchase items online to meet strangers in order to complete the sales transaction.

“Project Safe Trade’s goal is to reduce the amount of offences related to online marketplace transactions, such as theft and fraud,” said Provincial Constable Carrie Lanning, Community Safety Officer at the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Detachment.

Text With 911

If you are deaf, deafened, hard of hearing or speech impaired you have the ability to text to 911 (T9-1-1). During an emergency, T9-1-1 provides the City of Kawartha Lakes Police 9-1-1 Call Centre with the ability to converse with you using text messaging. The service will also allow the Call Centre to forward your information to the Ontario Provincial Police, Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue or Kawartha Lakes Paramedic Service.

You must register for T9-1-1 with your wireless service provider and have an eligible cell phone before being able to use this service.
