Water Shuttle Certification

What is Water Shuttle Certification?

If you own a detached home in Kawartha Lakes, you may qualify for a discount on your home insurance thanks to our Fire Service's Water Shuttle Certification.

Water Shuttle Certification means our firefighters have demonstrated that they can deliver enough water to fight fires in areas without fire hydrants. The certification is recognized by the insurance industry as meeting the minimum requirements for hydrant-equivalent fire protection for eligible detached homes.

Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service earned Superior Tanker Shuttle Service accreditation through Fire Underwriters Survey on June 10, 2023. All City fire stations are accredited. Our firefighters train regularly to maintain the standards required for certification every five years.

Do I qualify for an insurance discount?

You may qualify if:

• You own a detached home in Kawartha Lakes

• Your home is within 8 kilometres by road of the responding fire station

• Your insurance company recognizes the Superior Tanker Shuttle Service accreditation

The discount is not automatic. Contact your home insurance provider to confirm your eligibility and ask whether they need a copy of your fire station's certificate.
