For Early Childhood Educators

Being or Becoming an Early Childhood Educator

Early Childhood Educators (ECE) play an important role in helping to create a high-quality early learning and child care system that is inclusive for all families.

An ECE:

  • Designs child-centred, play-based learning
  • Enhances child and family well-being
  • Builds caring relationships with children, families, and communities
  • Creates safe, engaging, and inclusive learning spaces

This is an exciting time to become a Registered ECE because as child care costs go down, it is expected that more families will access these services. A growing system needs a growing skilled workforce. If you’re interested in earning an ECE diploma and becoming a Registered ECE (RECE), financial help is available.

Being an Early Childhood Educator

Continuous professional learning enhances the practice of early child hood education. Engaging in continuous learning helps early learning professionals remain current in their knowledge, skills and professional values. It also promotes public trust in the College of Early Childhood Educators members and the profession.

The City of Kawartha Lakes funds the Early Learning Quality Initiative (ELQI) as a community resource to support quality in early learning environments. Professional learning strengthens and supports early learning professionals in their daily interactions with children and families. In addition to offering professional learning opportunities to the community, they also have a professional resource library that can be accessed by all RECEs and staff working in local child care and early learning programs.
