Community comes together for Earth Week clean-ups across Kawartha Lakes
Kawartha Lakes – Thank you to everyone who took part in an Earth Week 20-Minute Community Clean-Up event this year.
During Earth Week (April 19 to 25), the community was encouraged to get together with co-workers, family, friends and/or sports team to do a 20-minute clean-up of litter in their neighbourhood. The municipality provided gloves and garbage bags to help make it easy to join in.
This year, 44 groups and several individuals participated, with an estimated 1,057 total volunteers. Together, they collected 382 bags of litter and brought 910 kilograms (almost 1 tonne) of waste to our landfills.
“The Earth Week Community Clean-ups are a success every year because of the amazing volunteers, businesses, schools and community groups that get involved,” said Leanna Jones, Waste Reduction Coordinator. “Every clean-up, big or small, helps make Kawartha Lakes cleaner and more enjoyable for everyone. Thank you to everyone who took part this year.”
The Waste Management Division also thanks Miller Waste, the Parks and Recreation, Roads, and Customer Experience staff, and the landfill teams for helping support the program and safely manage all the collected waste.
Adopt-A-Road program results
The Adopt-A-Road program also helps keep local roads clean year-round. Many groups use Earth Week as their spring clean-up time. This year, seven new groups joined the program, bringing the total to 40.15 kilometres of adopted roads across the municipality.

A big thank you to everyone who helped clean up this Earth Week. Whether through our event, Adopt-A-Road, or on your own time, every effort makes a difference.
