Dental Services for Seniors

The new Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP) is a publicly funded program geared to low-income seniors who do not have private dental coverage.

To be eligible for the program, a senior must be over the age of 65 years, live in Ontario, and have an annual income less than $19,300. For couples, the combined income must be less than $32,000 per year.

The OSDCP will cover the costs of dental services such as: teeth cleaning, examinations, restorative services, X-rays, and oral surgery. There may also be partial coverage for dentures and other prosthodontic services.

Applications for the program are available online from the Ministry of Health and Service Ontario. Print copies can also be picked up at any of the Health Unit offices. Local seniors who need help to fill in the application can call the Health Unit at 1-866-888-4577, ext. 1247. A provincial processing centre will review submitted application forms and notify seniors who qualify for the program.

To learn more, call the Health Unit at 1-866-888-4577, ext. 1247.

Seniors Care Network Resource Guide

Seniors Care Network is pleased to share with you a new co-designed resource guide for older adults and caregivers during COVID-19.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been significant impacts on the health and well-being of older adults. Through interviews with community members, we became aware that older adults and their caregivers:

  1. are not sure who to call and where to access credible and up-to-date information
  2. have experienced changes to existing services and supports
  3. require quick and easy access to the services available in their community

In response to this need, COVID-19: A Guide to Information and Services for Older Adults and Family/Friend Caregivers in the Central East Region of Ontario was co-designed with older adult and family advisors and health care providers.

The guide includes 10 curated sections covering different topics identified by older adults. Each section includes clear and reliable information, useful tools, and descriptions of local services/agencies that older adults can contact. For those who do not have access to the internet, a printable contact list is included at the end of each section.

A copy of this guide can be found on the Seniors Care Network website.
