Corporate Records
The City creates and maintains records of many types and manages them all through our Corporate Records and Archives Division in the CAO Department. The retention and disposal of records is managed through By-Law 2017-066 and the City's Records Policy and Retention Schedule.
Some City records are freely available to the public, such as by-laws, Council policies, and Council meeting agendas and minutes. Many others contain personal information and are subject to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). Check out our Freedom of Information page to understand more about which records are publicly accessible and which require a Freedom of Information Request.
Personal Records Held by the City
There are a number of other records that may be personal in nature and can be requested through specific divisions, some of why may have associated fees. Other personal records may not be retained by the City, but by other organizations. Contact the division or organization directly for more information:
Available Through Divisions
- Building Permits: Building Division
- Planning Information: Planning Division
- Septic Tanks: Building Division
- Tax Bills, and current assessment roll books with property ownership information: Revenue and Taxation
Not Available Through CKL
- Police Reports: Kawartha Lakes Police Service or the Ontario Provincial Police
- Surveys, and Property Boundary Information: any local land surveyor
- Titles, Deeds, and Mortgages registered on a property: Land Registry Office
