Municipal Records

Corporate Records

The City creates and maintains records of many types and manages them all through our Corporate Records and Archives Division in the CAO Department. The retention and disposal of records is managed through By-Law 2017-066 and the City's Records Policy and Retention Schedule.

Some City records are freely available to the public, such as by-laws, Council policies, and Council meeting agendas and minutes. Many others contain personal information and are subject to the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). Check out our Freedom of Information page to understand more about which records are publicly accessible and which require a Freedom of Information Request.

Personal Records Held by the City

There are a number of other records that may be personal in nature and can be requested through specific divisions, some of why may have associated fees. Other personal records may not be retained by the City, but by other organizations. Contact the division or organization directly for more information:

Available Through Divisions

Not Available Through CKL

If you are looking for something else, contact the department or division for next steps, or the Clerks Office if you are unsure of where to go.

Historic Records and Archives

The City also maintains a Municipal Archives, which contains many records from predecessor municipalities as well as donations from private individuals. Check out our Municipal Archives page to learn more about our collection and how to view documents of interest.
