Funding available

A total of $100,000 is available through the fund in 2026. Applicants can request up to 25% of their organization's eligible fixed costs, to a maximum of $20,000, whichever amount is lower.

Program goals

The Local Economic Development Support Grant provides operating funding to non-profit organizations in the City of Kawartha Lakes. The program supports organizations that deliver local, community-based economic development initiatives that help build community pride and strengthen the local economy.

Eligible organizations are those that lead initiatives that align with the priorities and goals outlined in the City of Kawartha Lakes Strategic Plan, Economic Development Strategy, and related plans and policies.

In addition to helping cover operating costs, the program strengthens partnerships with non-profit organizations that contribute to the City's economic vitality. It supports their work in the community while allowing them to remain independent.

Application process

Organizations may submit one funding application per calendar year.

To be considered, applicants must:

• Submit a completed application by the deadline. Late applications will not be accepted.
• Demonstrate how their organization and initiatives align with the City of Kawartha Lakes Strategic Plan, Economic Development Strategy, or other municipal priorities.
• Clearly explain their organization's mandate and the economic development initiatives they deliver to support the local economy.
• Provide the following required documentation:
  • Previous year's audited or approved financial statements (profit and loss statements are acceptable if audited financial statements are not available)
  • Current year's organizational budget
  • A Board or Council motion confirming support for the funding request
  • Letters or emails confirming the partnerships identified in the application
  • Proof of legal status, such as incorporation documents, letters patent, a constitution, or bylaws

A 10% holdback applies to approved funding. 90% of the funding is released after approval. The remaining 10% is released after the final report has been submitted and approved.

Program administration

The Kawartha Lakes Economic Development Division administers the Local Economic Development Support Grant in accordance with the Economic Development Fund Policy.

Applications are reviewed by an internal committee and approved by the Director of Development Services. Successful applicants are announced through a news release and posted on the municipal website.
