Tariff Support for Kawartha Lakes Businesses

Helping local businesses navigate global trade changes

The City of Kawartha Lakes is committed to supporting local businesses, entrepreneurs, and residents through the uncertainty and disruptions from the changes in U.S. trade policy. We will continue to monitor the situation and regularly update this page.

Economic Development is working closely with our federal, provincial and local partners to support local businesses.

Current Tariff Status

July 28, 2026:

Effective August 19, 2026, the United States is applying an additional 50% tariff to a list of Canadian products, including alcohol, dairy, and a range of consumer goods, overriding the CUSMA exemption for those items. For products not covered by these measures, CUSMA remains in force and most Canadian exports continue to enter the U.S. duty-free. This includes exemption from the new 10% tariff on imports from several countries, including Canada, which replaces a temporary global tariff that recently expired.

Businesses affected by ongoing tariff developments can consult the federal government's tariff support measures. View the full list of products currently subject to U.S. tariffs.

Canada Tariff Finder

The Canada Tariff Finder enables Canadian businesses to check import or export tariffs for specific goods and markets, with a focus on countries with which Canada has a Free Trade Agreement. Businesses can use the tool to compare tariff rates for up to three different countries or products, and it simplifies this search by suggesting products that match the keyword(s) or Harmonized System (HS) code entered.

The Canada Tariff Finder a collaboration between BDC, EDC and the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service of Global Affairs Canada.
