Lindsay Milk Run Inclement Weather Plan:
There are many things that can be controlled; but unfortunately weather is not one of those things! Sometimes there are weather events beyond our control. (Not to worry though, a little rain in the forecast won’t stop us) But in the event that there is a threat of more severe weather, we are dedicated to ensuring the safety of all participants, volunteers, and spectators.
If race officials deem the course unsafe due to weather conditions, here’s what you need to know:
- Participants will be made aware of any weather forecast delays or cancellation on the Kawartha Lakes Parks and Recreation social media platform (Facebook) as well as through e-mail in advance of the event. On race day, any updates will be communicated via the PA system at the event site.
- In the event of extreme inclement weather, the Race Director; in consultation with emergency services personnel and other officials, will monitor the weather and make a decision if any action is necessary.
- Race officials may cancel, delay, or change the event logistics in the case of extreme weather or other conditions that may affect the safety and health of participants. If severe weather approaches and has not cleared by 8:30am on race day, the race will be cancelled.
- In the event of light rain, the event will continue as scheduled. Any delays or changes will be communicated to event participants at the event site via the PA system. Participants are advised to exercise caution and take into account the impact of weather on the route conditions and adjust their participation level accordingly.
- In the event of rain, participants are reminded to exercise caution to the potential of wet, slick roadways, and standing water on the route and throughout the race site. Participants are advised to run at their own risk.
- Lightning visible to the Race Director or reported to the Race Director will cause the start of the race to be postponed for a minimum of 30 minutes after the latest flash of lightning.
- The Lindsay Milk Run uses an Event Weather Alert System to advise participants of event conditions and provides suggested actions based on weather conditions. All Water Stations will display a coloured flag indicating event weather conditions. View the chart below for the meaning of each flag:
Alert Level | Flag Colour | Event Conditions | Recommended Actions |
---|---|---|---|
Extreme | Black | Event cancelled/extreme and dangerous conditions | Participation stopped. Follow event officials instructions |
High | Red | Potentially dangerous conditions | Slow down, observe course changes, follow official instructions and consider stopping |
Moderate | Yellow | Less than ideal conditions | Slow down, be prepared for worsening conditions |
Low | Green | Good conditions | Enjoy the event! Be alert |
- Event officials may decide to shut down the course after the race has started if weather conditions deteriorate. In this occurrence, a red flag would be placed at all Water Stations located along the route, and volunteers would advise the race course has been shut down and the race would not resume. Participants would then be advised to seek shelter.
- Volunteer course marshals and route personnel will be released from their positions in the event of the race being canceled.
- All entry fees are non-refundable. Fixed costs are incurred whether the race is held to completion or not. In the event of a full cancellation, registered participants would still receive their race t-shirt, bib and finisher medal.
