911 Address Signs

911 Municipal Address Installation changes effective immediately.

Changes to 911 Municipal Address installation process will commence immediately for residents purchasing the rural green or yellow 911 signs.

Kawartha Lakes will no longer install the 911 signs for residents.

Process changes

Residents will be required to install the sign themselves using the provided guidelines.

The cost of the sign blade for 2026 is $35.00.

What doesn’t change

Residents will continue to purchase their metal sign blade through the Building & Septic Division.

Building & Septic Division staff will continue to calculate the appropriate number and order the sign blade from our vendor.

Sign requests continue to be submitted through our on-line application portals: Municipal 911 Sign Request Portal or Farm 911 Sign Request Portal

Signs associated with a building permit for new development on vacant land, will be ordered through that process and a separate application for 911 sign is not required.

What residents can expect starting today

Residents will be provided with information on where to purchase posts and hardware and a copy of the installation guidelines upon pick up of their sign blade.

Sign blade pick ups may be requested to the nearest Service Centre: City Hall, Coboconk, Bobcaygeon or Omemee, or at the main offices for the Building & Septic Division at the Development Services Hub – 180 Kent St W, Lindsay.

911 Sign Post Supplier Options

A municipal address, or 911 number, is assigned to a property to aid in emergency response and for ease of way-finding. The number is assigned to the property based on the location of the entrance on that property and a measurement to an intersecting road.

The municipal address number is assigned by the municipality at one of the following stages: the time of creation of a lot in a plan of subdivision, the time of a building permit application for construction on a vacant property or at the request of a property owner on vacant land.

An application form must be filled out if you are requesting a new 911 municipal address sign for a vacant rural property not associated with a building permit or would like to replace a damaged or stolen existing sign.
