Specialized Waste

The City’s landfill sites accept a variety of specialized waste materials, including RV septic waste, boats and boat wrap, and agricultural waste. Some materials have specific drop off locations, preparation, handling or disposal requirements, so please review the information below before bringing specialized waste to a landfill.

RV Septic Dump Station

RV septic and sanitary dumping is available only at the Lindsay Ops Landfill.

Before you visit:

  • Dumping is available year-round.
  • RV dumping is available until 3 p.m. during regular landfill operating hours. This permanent change took effect June 15 due to operational requirements for the City’s organics program.
  • The tank rinse hose is available seasonally, from spring through late fall, depending on weather conditions. The rinse hose is not available during cold weather. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

For current landfill hours, visit the Landfills page. For fees, visit the Tipping Fees page.

Boats and Boat Wrap

Boats

We accept boats at City landfill sites. Regular tipping fees apply. When you bring a boat to the landfill you must make sure the fuel tank is empty. Remove the fuel tank from the boat whenever possible. If you can't provide physical evidence that the boat has no fuel in it the boat will not be accepted at the landfill site.

Emptying boats of fuel before arriving at the landfill protects the personal safety of landfill attendants and prevents environmental contamination.

Boat wrap

Boat wrap is accepted at all landfills in the City and is considered waste. Regular tipping fees apply. You must roll and tie boat wrap before you bring it to the landfill.

Agricultural Waste

Bale wrap

Bale wrap is accepted at all landfills in the City and is considered waste. Regular tipping fees apply. You must roll and tie bale wrap before you bring it to the landfill.

Excavator Required Waste (Bio-hazardous Material)

Some agricultural waste is considered bio-hazardous, requires additional equipment to assist with disposal, and pre-approval for disposal. Tipping fees of $300 per tonne apply.

Tire recycling

The City of Kawartha Lakes no longer accepts tires at landfill sites. Tire producers are responsible for ensuring tires are collected and recycled.

Where to recycle tires

Many garages, tire retailers and other collection sites across Kawartha Lakes accept tires for recycling.

Use the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) collection site search to find a location near you. Enter your postal code to find a convenient drop-off location.

For more information, contact the RPRA at 1-833-600-0530

Tire recycling for businesses

Businesses that generate tires through their operations must register with the RPRA as a collection site to arrange tire pickup.

Visit the RPRA website or call 1-833-600-0530 for more information.
