Municipal 911 Address Signs

A municipal address, or 911 number, is assigned to a property to aid in emergency response and for ease of way-finding. 

An application form must be filled out if you are requesting a new 911 municipal address sign for a vacant rural property not associated with a building permit or would like to replace a damaged or stolen existing sign.

How much does the sign cost?

The cost of the sign blade for 2026 is $35.00.

How do I get my sign?

Sign blade pick ups may be requested to the nearest Service Centre: City Hall, Coboconk, Bobcaygeon or Omemee, or at the main offices for the Building and Septic Division at the Development Services Hub – 180 Kent St W, Lindsay.  You will be prompted to choose your location within the on-line application.

How is the sign installed?

You will be required to install the sign using the provided guidelines.

Upon pick up of your sign, you will be provided with information on where to purchase posts and hardware and a copy of the installation guidelines. 

Can I apply for a green vacant lot sign instead of a yellow sign?

No, vacant lots applying for a 911 sign will receive a yellow Farm 911 sign for easy identification by emergency services. This is so first responders are aware the incident they are called to is not tied to a home or farm building.

What if I want to build on the vacant lot in the future?

Should development occur, the property owner is required to submit an application and fee for a new green 911 sign/civic address.

Does the Farm 911 sign count as the property address?

No, Farm 911 signs are intended to mark field entrances and a separate green addressing sign will be located at the entrance associated with the dwelling on the farm. It is common for a farm property to have both green and yellow signs at different access points. Farm 911 signs do not constitute a civic address for mail delivery purposes.

An approved application does not imply that use of the property may proceed without additional permits or approvals as required by the City of Kawartha Lakes and further does not constitute an approval of an entrance unless so directed by the City of Kawartha Lakes. It is the responsibility of the land owner to ensure signage is placed, remains visible and is maintained according to the signage criteria provided by the City of Kawartha Lakes. If the sign is knocked down or damaged it is the responsibility of the land owner to purchase a replacement sign using the above process.
