Pay your ticket by mail

When paying by mail, write the Parking Infraction Notice number on the front of your cheque. Make the cheque payable to The City of Kawartha Lakes. NSF cheques are subject to an administrative charge.

Parking tickets can be paid in person at a Municipal Service Centre or the Municipal Law Enforcement Office (37 Lindsay Street South, Lindsay).

Payments can be made by cash, cheque, money order, Visa, Mastercard or debit.

Ticket Details

• Payment locations and trial options are listed on the ticket
• Payment must be received within 15 days of the infraction
• If payment is not received or a trial is not requested, a conviction notice will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle
• A fee will be added to the fine if payment or appeal options are not received by the due date. The outstanding amount will be forwarded to the Ministry of Transportation.
• Any outstanding fines must be paid before you can renew your licence plate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I work for a delivery or service company and I get a parking ticket?

There is no legal exemption for delivery or service vehicles. Drivers making deliveries are advised to use "ON DELIVERY" signs. Officers may use discretion when a sign is displayed.

Service companies and nursing agencies should obtain legal parking whenever possible.

Can I park on a fire route?

No. Parking on a fire route is prohibited at all times and may result in a fine and/or the vehicle being towed.

Where else is parking prohibited?

Parking is prohibited:

• on a sidewalk or footpath
• in front of or within two metres of an entrance, or in a way that prevents other motor vehicles from using an entrance
• in front of or adjacent to a fire hall
• in a way that obstructs or interferes with traffic
• to sell, service or repair a motor vehicle, except in an emergency
• in front of or within 15 metres of a recreational trail
• at an expired meter
• in the turning circle of a cul-de-sac
• on City property where a validation tag is not visible, is improperly displayed or has expired

I'm having my driveway paved. Can I park on the street for a few days? 

The City may allow short-term parking for this type of work. Contact the Municipal Law Enforcement Office at 705-324-9411 ext. 1212 before parking on the road to request parking consideration for the time you will be parked there.

Parking consideration is not available for offences such as no stopping, stopping on sidewalks, parking on boulevards, parking in front of fire hydrants or parking on fire routes.

What is a boulevard and can I park on it?

A boulevard is the part of a highway between the shoulder or curb and the boundary of the adjoining property. Parking on a boulevard is prohibited.

When can I use an Accessible Parking Permit? 

An Accessible Parking Permit is issued to the person named on the permit, not to a vehicle. The permit holder must be in the vehicle when it is parked in an accessible parking space.

The permit must be clearly visible in the front window. Photocopies of permits are not accepted.

The permit may not be:

• altered or defaced
• displayed with the expiry date or permit number covered
• withheld when an officer requests to inspect it

Misuse of an Accessible Parking Permit could result in fines ranging from $300 to $5,000 and the permit being revoked.

Can I park a commercial vehicle on a City road?

No. A commercial vehicle with an unloaded weight of 1,000 kg or more cannot be parked on a highway at any time.

What is the difference between parking and stopping regulations?

No parking: Motorists may only stop to load or unload passengers or merchandise.

No stopping: Motorists generally cannot stop for any reason, except to avoid a conflict with other traffic or when directed by a police officer, traffic control sign or signal.
