Pet Licenses
If you own a dog or cat in Kawartha Lakes, your pet must have a current licence.
Licences are valid for the calendar year, from January 1 to December 31.
Residents are limited to 4 dogs, 4 cats, or a combined total of 8 animals on a property, unless an exemption under the by-law applies.
Animal Licence Fees
- Annual tag for spayed/neutered dog or cat (with proof): $45
- Annual tag for unaltered dog or cat: $50
- Lifetime tag for dog or cat: $100
- Replacement tag: $30
- Special services dog or cat (with proof): no charge
- Livestock guardian dog (with proof): no charge

Licenses are available for purchase at any of the Municipal Service Centres, through the mail, or by using our online form.

Purchasing a license ensures your pet complies with the By-Law 2021-072 (download), which was put in place to ensure the health and safety of residents and their pets. Any inquiries call 705-324-9411 ext 1328.
Some properties or situations may qualify for an exemption. Please refer to By Law 2021-072 for details or contact Municipal Law Enforcement if you have questions about your specific circumstances.
