Sign Permits
The City of Kawartha Lakes Sign By-law regulates the erection of signs for both residential and non-residential advertising on both private and public land.
Signage requires a municipal sign permit if located within the Villages of Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls and within the Town of Lindsay. Additional area specific regulations apply to the Lindsay Downtown Business Improvement Area.
Signage is not permitted on any municipally owned land, which includes all City road allowances.
Signs are also regulated by the Ontario Heritage Act, the Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Building Code.
Fees
More information on topics such as online payments can be found on our Building Permits and Guides page. Our current fee schedule can be found in the Consolidated Fees By-law.
Heritage Sign Permits
The Ontario Heritage Act regulates signage associated with a Heritage District and heritage designated buildings. Visit our Heritage Permits page for more information.
Ministry of Transportation Sign Permits
The Ministry of Transportation regulates all advertising signage located within 400 meters of any Provincial Highway Right-of-Way. Signs within a Ministry of Transportation corridor, will also require a permit from that agency to obtain the municipal permit.
Ontario Building Code Sign Permits
The Ontario Building Code regulates the following sign types and these signs would require a building permit, rather than a municipal sign permit:
- a ground sign that exceeds 7.5m in height above the adjacent ground,
- a projecting sign that weighs more than 115 kg, or
- a roof sign that has any face that is more than 10m2.
Visit our Building Permits and Guides page if you require an Ontario Building Code permit.
