Waste Tags and Items for Sale
You can purchase tags for curbside collection of extra garbage, mattresses, large items and Freon appliances. You can also purchase rain barrels, digesters and composters at City Municipal Service Centres and select library branches.
Please note: waste tags for extra garbage bags are only available for purchase in person. Visit a Municipal Service Centre or see a list of locations below.
Waste tags
There is currently a two-bag curbside residential waste limit per household across the municipality.
Effective June 15 2026, the waste limit changed to one bag per household per week in the urban areas of Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Lindsay and Omemee for households participating in the Organics Program. All other communities continue to have a two-bag limit.
If you need to set out extra garbage bags, you will need to purchase a tag for every additional bag.
Waste tags for extra garbage are only available for purchase in person.
Large item tags
Mattress, large item and Freon appliance tags are available for purchase online or in person.
Curbside collection programs are only available within the municipal boundaries of the City of Kawartha Lakes. If your address is in a neighbouring municipality, please contact that municipality to find out what curbside collection options are available.

How to use tags
Waste tags
- Wrap the tag around the neck of your garbage bag and stick the ends together to form a flag.
- Attach the tag to the top of your garbage bag and make sure collectors can see all bag tags if you are using containers such as garbage cans.
- Do not use bag tags for leaf and yard waste.
Large item tags
- When leaving your item at the curb, place the tag on it so the collector can see it.
